Latest News : Wolseley RFC - AFRIWU Steps up

On behalf of Wolseley RFC, we wish to sincerely thank AfriWU for sponsoring our brand-new first-team rugby kit and jerseys.

Your generous support has already inspired greatness — today, wearing the new kit with pride, our boys delivered a dominant performance on home ground, defeating Evergreens RFC 24–3 and securing a bonus point against the Paarl rugby club.

This kit is more than just what we wear — it is a symbol of pride, honor, discipline, courage, and integrity, values that both Wolseley RFC and AfriWU proudly stand for. We will continue to represent these values every time we take the field.

Thank you, AfriWU, for your commitment to our team and community.

AFRIWU's Workers Day Message

On behalf of the leadership of AFRIWU, we wish all our members and all workers a celebratory Workers Day.

Workers Day or May day as it is also known as, is a celebration and also a commemoration of the victories that workers have achieved and also the struggles fought and sacrifices that workers made, respectively. It is through workers unity and their struggles that Workers Day is a paid public holiday.

We celebrate workers' role in the achievement of our 45-hour work week, right to sick leave, overtime payment, and off days on Public Holidays, etc. Workers through their unity and their trade unions have all contributed to these rights. We salute those workers who have started the campaign for a better working day and better socio-economic conditions.

As a organisation of workers, it is incumbent on us to continue and advance the interests of workers. We must make our contribution to improve the working conditions of our members and all workplaces where we possibly can. We shall continue to strive to improve the lives of workers and their families and their communities. The working class must be united in order to achieve their objectives of better conditions at work and better socio-economic conditions. AFRIWU must lead our members and workers in this continued campaign.

We commerate those individuals who have paid the price of leading the struggle of workers. We thank them and remember them by continuing what they started.

Let us remind everyone what workers did for this country and how they changed the landscape in the workplace through their unity and struggles for a better world for workers.

Power to Workers!

Workers Day Message from the General Secretary

 AFRIWU 10th Year Anniversary

Eleven years ago, it would have seemed almost inconceivable to envision the extraordinary achievements that AFRIWU, a dedicated trade union representing the Agriculture, Fishing, and Retail sectors, would accomplish in the years to come. Fast forward to 9 November 2024, and the members came together to proudly celebrate an impressive milestone—its 10th anniversary. This momentous occasion served as a powerful testament to a decade characterized by unwavering commitment, heartfelt passion, relentless perseverance, and steadfast service to its invaluable worker-members.

The journey that has brought AFRIWU to this remarkable point has demanded tireless dedication and effort from its office-bearers, whose passion for advocacy and support continues to play a crucial role in the union’s ongoing success and influence. It is particularly noteworthy that even the employers within the sectors where AFRIWU is active have publicly recognized the union’s professionalism and exemplary conduct, highlighting a culture of respect and collaboration.

During this significant celebration, I had the distinct honor of welcoming and introducing the esteemed Minister of Land Reform, Minister Mzwanele Nyhontso, as the keynote speaker. His presence added a level of importance to the event that underscored the achievements of the union. It truly was a privilege to be part of such a landmark event, where we not only reflect on past accomplishments but also look forward to new horizons of growth and development for our members and their communities.

AFRIWU participated in CANSA's Big Walk 2025

We take immense pride in showcasing and honouring the incredibly dedicated members from Ceres who participated in the significant event known as CANSA's Big Walk on March 1, 2025. This event serves as a vital reminder of the ongoing fight against cervical cancer, impacting countless women and their families. The unwavering commitment demonstrated by our members to this critical cause is not only inspiring but also reflects the core values we uphold as a union.

To support their efforts and enhance their experience at the event, AFRIWU generously provided our members with custom-designed t-shirts specifically for the occasion. The excitement and team spirit exhibited by our group truly shone through, culminating in them being awarded a prize for the best-dressed team. This accolade is a remarkable testament to their creativity, teamwork, and relentless dedication to raising awareness about this important issue that affects so many lives.

At AFRIWU, we are committed to using the funds we receive from our valued members to create a positive impact within our communities whenever possible. Our union has built a strong reputation for being deeply integrated into the neighbourhoods where our members live and work, actively engaging in local initiatives and making meaningful contributions. We take great pride in being recognized as a union that genuinely cares about the well-being of its members and the communities, they call home.

The extraordinary commitment displayed by our members on this occasion is truly commendable. They participated not only for themselves but as representatives of all women bravely facing the challenges posed by cervical cancer. Their actions have made us immensely proud and have strengthened our resolve to advocate for essential health issues that affect so many individuals across the country.

In closing, we extend heartfelt congratulations to all the ladies for their unwavering dedication, hard work, and passion in the fight against cervical cancer! Well done! Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are incredibly proud of each and every one of you!
